Remnants and Residue
The Suburbs – an outlying residential area of a city, stuck in between urban and rural, inhabited by the middle class. This work focuses on overlooked corners of everyday life within these middle-class suburbs. I assemble forms, shapes, and colors while concentrating on small tears within the planned American fabric. Instead of running from the dull milieu of my upbringing, I mine for fragmented stories of the people who live here. I am also searching for pieces of my personal history and identity. Financial tension, stifled queerness, and broken promises may not be what initially arises when viewing this work, but it was carried with me when it was made.
